[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] ItOTORUA, Wednesday. ALTHOUGH the season is supposed to he ovor, about 30 people, evidently of the tourist class, arrived by yesterday afternoon's train. The weather has been showery for the past day or two. Mr. W. 11. Ilerries returned from Taupo and Tokminu on Sunday by the new road, via Waiotapu, and went on to Te Aroha by Monday's train, so as to be in time lor the Governor's visit. When here Mr. Herries received a deputation, representing the unemployed of the district, numbering about 20 men. Mr. Herries telegraphed to the Minister for Works, asking if they uld not be employed on the works in progress here. Mr. Hall-Jones replied that he could not discharge men at present at work but would see what further votes were available. It is feared here that, as was the case prior to last general election, men will bo sent from the South Island to the detriment of the IVcal unemployed. The bridge across th Waikato River near the Waimana crossing at about half-way between Ohako and ">rako is now open for traffic. It is now stated that Ciptain Turner, of Wellington will relieve Mr. R. H. Reaney at the local roads and survey office, and not Mr. Robinson, of New Plymonih, as was previously announced. Another change in the management of the local hotels is about to take place. Mr. Bach, of Cambridge, will replace Mr. "Winter in the management of the Lake House. Mr. Archibald Denny and the Hon. Geo. McLean are at present staying at the Geyser Hotel, Whakarewarewa.
