SOLD TO A CHRISTCHURCH FIRM.
INTENTIONS OF THE NEW PROPRIETORS.
[BT TELEGRAPH.— MESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. Ir is understood that tho Bank of New Zealand has sold the Auckland Meat Freezing Company's Works and plant to Messrs. A. H. Turnbull and Co., of Chris (church, and William Weddel and Co., of London, for the sum of £22,500. The property includes tk land and buildings 011 which the Freezing Works stand at the Railway Wharf, and also the freehold and buildings at Westfield, Otahuhu. A Herald representative waited on Mr. A Kevins, who represents Messrs. A. H. Jinnbiill and Co., of Chrislcliurch, and learnt that his firm, in conjunction with a large firm of meat importers at Home, had purchased the Auckland Freezing Works. a Ley take possession this morning at nine a dock. Messrs. Turnbull and Cc. were the means of giving a stimulus to the frozen lamb industry this year by inaugurating the system of purchasing the stock direct from the farmei, thus saving the latter all risk that might attend shipping on his own account. It is their intention to foster the trade to the best of their ability, and buy all the farmers can proditco 'in the way of fat stool; suitable for the London market, and to pay special attention to the trade in frozen lambs, which, it may bo confidently expected, will, under proper St pervisioil, rapidly develop and assume arge dimensions and become an immense benefit to the provincial district of Auckland. Mr. Bcvins has during the past few months visited various country districts, and endeavoured to impress on the farmers the importance and possibilities of the business, and has given them promises to toko suitable stock in any quantity. The new proprietors intend to remodel the works so that they shall be up-to-date in every respect, and capable of coping with the large expansion in the trade which is anticipated. As the trade grows, and when shown to be necessary, Messrs. Turnbull and Co. propose to open works in the Waikato district in some central position, where the stork can be driven without being railed— an expansive mode of tarrying sheep whir!) does not improve the mutton. An important branch of the business will bo the utilisation of the "bye-products," as, for instance, the manufacture of manure. Tt is unoerstood that the price paid for the works was £22,500. The new proprietors also intend to erect now slaughtering yards in the vicinity of Auckland.
