A mm, prepared by the Mines Department shows that during last month 33,3430z f ti ol V, , at£l3o ' so9 '™ exported valued at £56,948, in April" of 15,22007, valued at £56,948, in April of last year, an increase of no less than 18,123 m, worth £74,561-10 fact, more than double the amount Tlnsfact is mainly due to the great strides which the dredging industry in Otago lias made of late. The quantities entered for export from the several ports last month, compared with those for April last year, were as follow :- Auckland : April, 1899, 8802oz, valued at £31,632 ; April, 1898, 77760z, valued at £27,275. Greymouth : April, 1899, 92820z, valued at £37,127 ; April, 1898, 33640z, valued at £13,455. Dunedin : April, 1899, 15,2590z, valued at £61,750 ; April, 1898, 30650z, valued at £12,156.
