Last night the Northern Company's steamer Muritai left for Kennedy's Bay, Kuaotunu, and Mercury Bay. The Northern Company's steamer Ohinemuri loft last evening for Waiharara and Hohoura.

H.M.s. Mildura loaves for the North to-day. The New Zealand Shipping? Company's steamer Waiinate leaves for waitara this evening. The Union Company's steamer Mararoa leaves this afternoon foi East Coast and Southern ports. Yesterday afternoon the Union Company's steamer Ovalau was floated out of the Auckland Dock, after cleaning and painting, and berthed at the Queen-street Wharf. She leaves this evening for Rarotonga and Tahiti. The departure of the Northern Company's steamer Ngunguru for Waipu is postponed until 7 p.m. to-morrow. Yesterday the Northern Company's steamer Taniwha was floated into the Auckland Dock for cleaning and painting. The departure of the Northern Company's steamer Waiotahi for Tauranga. and Opotiki is postponed until 3 p.m. on Thursday. The Union Company'' steamer Mawkera, replaces the Oraapere in the Auckland, East Coast, and Wellington trade. Yesterday afternoon the scow Ngaru arrived from Gisljorne and Ngunguru. The Northern Company's steamer Terranora leaves for Whangarei at eight o'clock tonight.

THE MARIPOSA. The American mail steamer Mariposa is expected to arrive early this morning from San Francisco, Honolulu, and Apia, and leaves for Sydney a few hours after arrival. THE MOANA. The Union Company's mail steamer Moana, ■which left this port on April 17, arrived at Ban Francisco on Friday last, due date. LOSS OP LIFE AT SEA. With all the caro that is taken to ensure the safety of life at sea, the loss annually is still very great, both by drowning by wreck and casualty, and by accidents and drowning abroad and ashore amongst sailors. The Snipping Federation have recently compiled a table which shows the actual loss of life that has occurred since 1893. A telegram was received in town yesterday Stating that the barque Cloud bad been got ■off the bank at Port Albert, If it is found that the vessel is not seriouslv injured, an attempt will he mado to tow her round to this port for repair. THE ANGLO-AUSTRALIAN LINE. Further particulars were received by last mail of the launching at Hebburn-on-Tyne of the four-masted steel-screw steamer K«nt. constructed by R. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie, and Co. (Limited). This is the first of 'cur sister vessels the company are at present building to the order of Messrs. Win. Milburn and Co., of London. Her principal dimensions are: Length overall, 435 ft i breadth, 54ft; deptii, 40ft to shelter deck. The vessel has been built in excess of the highest class at Lloyds, and is the fourteenth of a series of 18 vessels built and building at Hebburn yard for the Australian and New Zealand frozen meat trade. On. the shelter deck, amidships, is placed a large steel deckhouse for the accommodation of first-class passengers, with a handsome dining saloon The staterooms are well lighted and ventilated, and fitted up in first-class style. Above this deckhouse is an extensive passenger promenade deck, with house in centre, containing Emokeroom. The vessel, being intended for carrying frozen meat from the colonies, has the whole of her forward end. including three tolas and 'tween decks, insulated on the latest /ml most improved plan, and with refrigerating apparatus on the Haslam system. The engines of the vessel have been built by R and W. Hawthorn, Leslie, and Co. \ A NEW SHIRE LINER. The ntew steamer Nairnshire, which has arrived at Sydney from Loudon, is the latest addition to the well-known Shire line, otherwise the Elderslie Steamship Company Glasgow. Sho is a sister ship to the Perthshire, and was built and engined by the Clydesbank Engineering mid Shipbuilding Company (Limited). Her dimensions are: Length, 420.5 ft; breadth, 54.7 ft; depth, 23.85 ft; indicated horse-power, 3000; and gross tonnage, 5672; net, 3628. The Nairnshire is well fitted, her saloon is roomy, and in excellent taste, panelled in polished oak with walnut frames, and over each cabin is an ornate piece of work in the shape of a spiritedly-carved piece of work representing the English, Scotch, Welsh, and Irish emblems. The berths and bathrooms are commodious, with the latest improvements, and the vesel is fitted with electric light. The deck of the Nairnshire being flush, there is a long and broad promenade. Tho Nairnshire is under the command of Captain Wallace, who has been associated with this company for some considerable time. BY TELEGRAPH. CAPE MARIA VAN DLEMEN. .
