■j PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES. J The first meeting of the University College I Musical Students' Association [or the orei sent year took place last night at the Choral I Hall. Sir G. M. O'Rorke (chairman of the : College Council) presided. There was a good j attendance of members and friends. The 1 , principal event of the evening was the pre--1 sentation of the certificates won at the ex1 1 animation conducted in November last at '■ Auckland by the examiners of the Associated ' | Board of the Royal Academy of Music and I the Royal College of Music. The examina- ! I tions of tho Board aro of five different grades, '! and they aro all intended to he steps in the , same ladder. Tho Chairman expressed the pleasure he | felt at being with the students, because he : was so seldom able to bo present at their meetings, owing to his duties elsewhere. In speaking of the certificates lie was to present, the Chairman said the certificates of that very distinguished society in London should have great weight, '.'.'he successes of tho 1 pupils reflected credit on thomselve.. and their teachers. Ho most heartily congratulated them. Tho Chairman also congratulated Mr. Bennett on the large number "'of passes his pupils had secured. The certificates were then handed over to tho successful competitors. Twonly-sevon candidates presented themselves at the examination, and 16 gained certificates, of whom 12 were pupils of Mr. J. • P. Bennett. The following is a list of tho successes:—Senior honours in music: Miss A. M. Batgor (pupil of Miss Cologrovo). Senior pass: Misses E. E. Meyers and E. M. Whyman (pupils of Miss Colegrove), and Miss A. A. Player (pupil of Mr. Arthur Towsey). Syllabus B, Division I.: Miss Helen A. Morris, 78 marks; Miss Hilda M. Steele, 74; Master Harry Steele, 72; Miss Ellen M. Douglas, 70; Miss Mary A. Geddes, 67; Master (leorgo Pete Steele, 67; Miss Helen A. Lamb, 66. Division II.: Miss Mota Daero, 75 ; Miss Jessie L. Thome, 72 ; Miss Camilla F. Steele, 70 ; Miss Marianne E. Davis, 66 ; Miss Emily B. Walton, 66. Tho candidates in Divisions I. and 11. woro pupils of Mr. Bennett. An election of officers of the association for tho ensuing year followed, and resulted as under :—President, Herr Carl Schmitt ; secretary, Mr. Thos. Mctiinley : treasurer, Miss Kent ; musical committee, Misses Kent, Laing, and Peake, and Mr. F. A. Clarko; musical director, Mr. J. H. Philpott. During tho evening Miss E. E. Meyers, Miss Laing, Miss Whyman, and Miss Sybil Lewis contributed well-rendered musical items. At an interval refreshments wero provided in an ante-room.
