The other steamer was the Fifesliire, a sister vessel to the Morayshire. The cables mentioned that owners of vessels having refrigerated h°lds are now having such passed under Lloyd's survey. This was not formerly done, but the frequent reports of damaged meat cargoes, fires on meat steamers, and so on have led to a change being made in this respect. The insulation and general construction of the meat rooms now form part of a Lloyd survey periodically, for which a certificate is given, just as is the case with reference to surveys of hulls, machinery, spars, etc. The Morayshire is specially designed, for the conveyance of frozen meat cargoes, and is fitted with powerful duplex refrigerating machinery on the Llnde system, the machinery being designed, manufactured. and tested subject to the supervision of Lloyd's. Including the bunkei coal, this great carrier is able to transport 13.000 tons. She lifts 10.000 tons on a draught of 26ft, stows in three holds 95,000 frozen sheep, and 5000 tow of general cargo in other parts of the ship, and this enormous body of steel and merchandise is propelled across 12.000 miles of ocean at a speed of 12 nautical miles (nearly 14 statute miles) every hour of the day and night without rest, and at a cost of but one and a-third tons of coal per hour.
