Sir George Turner had a formal consults tion with the Victorian Federal delegates, who discussed the attitude of the colony for his guidance during the conference. No resolutions were passed, and the Premier was left a free hand.

The last of the village settlements estab« lished on the Murray River has collapsed. It differed from the others in that it was run on similar altruistic lines to the New Australia settlement in Paraguay. Dissensions aiose, and of 16 original settlers only foul remain. They now desire to acquire th. settlement as a private undertaking.
WO MEN SMOTHERED BY FOUL
Melbourne, January 25.
Two miners, Cole and Murley, were smothered by foul gas at Stawell. Cole's blotter attempted to rescue him, and had a narrow escape of losing his own life,

The Sugar Journal gives the season's sugar yield as 156,000 tons, an increase if 58,000 tons over the previous year.
