OLD AGE PENSION CLAIMS.
INVESTIGATIONS OF APPLICATIONS At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., sat again to investigate the claims made under the Old Age Pensions Act. Mr. Ciilpon, registrar, appeared for the Government.
Patrick Cummerford, labourer, living in Upper Queen-street, had some difficulty in proving his age, but was ultimately granted a certificate for the full amount. Jane Wiles, whose case was partly heard lust week, again appeared. The application had been adjourned in order to arrive at the value of a property owned by Mrs. Wiles in Newmarket. Constable Hollis, Mr. Culpan's assistant, said, from inquiries made he estimated its value to be £140. Mr, Culpan said the furniture was worth £30, making a total of £170. A certificate for £10 per annuo) was granted. The applicant loses £1 of the pension for every £15 of accumulated property she or he possesses above £50.
John Winteringham, of Moore-street, no occupation, an old 56th man, said he would be 74 next birthday. He only earned his food last year. He did not own any property. His Worship .granted a certificate for the full amount.
Nicholas Honeycombe, whose claim was partly heard last week, wis granted a certificate for £13 it year, The gross value of his property was £130. In the case of Elizabeth Honeycombe, wife of the last applicant, a certificate was issued for the full amount.
Several other applications were adjourned.
