WELLINGTON ANNIVERSARY.
SWIMMING SPORTS AND YACHT RACES.

Wellington, Monday. Splendid weather prevailed for the anniversary. The rain during the night laid the dust, and the day was fine, but not too hot, with a light breeze. Great nmw'jira if people went to Plummerton and other seaside resorts. The principal festivities besides the race meeting were the swimming sports and the yacht races. In the. 100 yds Swimming Championship of New Zealand, seven competed, the event being won by Edwards, of Christchurch, by a head from Truscott (Christchurch), the present champion. Stokes (Christchurch) was third, 2ft away, and the others were close up. The time, 69 4-55., is a record for the colony.
Theie were only two entries for the senior yachts' race, Maritana and Waitangi, The breeze was too light at the start, and the Mai'iUtna gave tip. In the handicap races the same two entered, but the Maritana had a walk over. In the junior races there were good entries.
