PARNELL DRAINAGE SCHEME.

At the meeting of the Parnell Borough Council last evening, the question of the drainage scheme for Parnell came before the Council.

The Mayor said that since last meeting he had had an opportunity of conferring with Mr. Ward, the engineer, who prepared the plans, and learned from him that itwould perhaps be unwise to carry out the extension at St. George's Bay. as the sewage would not be disponed of. The item would come to about £756. There was also the question of a sewer to carry off storm-water from the Domain, the amount estimated for which was about £3000—a considerable sum of money for a work that would not include a great number of properties. These items in his opinion needed re-consideration. His own feeling was that the matter should receive further consideration, and he would move that the matter be deferred for consideration at the meeting ol the whole Council in committee.

Mr. Fitts seconded.

Mr. Mowbray said Hint £3000 was an enormous amount to spend on ii work which would benefit very few people. Mr. Brings agreed that the matter should be deferred, and would be content to abide bv the opinion of the majority of the Council. Re snwcslwl that a personal inspection of the sewers would aid the Council in arriving at a decision. Mr. Tewsley agreed with the proposal (hat the Council go into the matter before going before the ratepayers. It was derided that the whole Council (leal with the question in committee on Monday next, and that such members as can do so go over the ground with the engineer on tlin't. dnv.
