A LAMENTABLE ACCIDENT.
A BOY DROWNED IK WARNOCK'S DAM, COX'S CREEK, A lamkxtahlk accident took place at Warnock's dam, Cox's Creek, on Saturday last, by which a young lad, aged 13, Frank Young, the son of Mr. Young, bootmaker, Ailliur-street, Ponsonby, lost his life. The following are the particulars so far as they can be ascertained:-The deceased, in company with two other boys, Conway Mitchell and George Hazard, went over to Richmond, at half-past nine a.m., on Saturday, with the intention of catching frogs. They went over to Warnock's dam,' and while the boy ioung was standing on the brink of the dam lie leant over, and lost his balance, and fell into it. The other boys raised an alarm, and assistance arrived, but the boy was not got out for ten minutes, when life was found to De extinct. Dr. Knight was called in, but his services were of no avail. The grandfather of the lad, Mr. Andrews, of Ponsonby Road, went over to the dam, and brought the body of the unfortunate boy to the residence of his parents, Arthur-street;. An inquest will bo held to-day at ten o'clock, at the residence of Mr. Young. This is the second boy who has been drowned in this dam. ]t appears that it is on private property, and the bovs trespass to it.
