THE PAKURANGA HOUNDS.

THE Pakuriuga Hounds met last Saturday afternoon at ihnmatao. Owing to the heavy rain which had fallen during the week, it was at first thought- that it would be inadvisable to hunt over that part of the country, but on inquiry being made at Mr. Ellett's, it was found that the country was in a suitable condition, and tho hounds were thrown off in a raupo swamp on that gentleman's property. No success was met with here, however, and a move was made to the mountain, where a hare was chopped. Soon after, however, a very strong hare gave the field a smart run over stone walls, post-and-rails, and other stiff fencing, for about half an hour. The scent was not too good, but the hounds worked splendidly, eventually killing in some i aurum lilies close to the Hold. Later in the afternoon a third hare was put up, and a totally different class of country was met I with. Towards the close of the day, when ' most of those who came from town were re--1 turning, the hounds again killed. Mr. and ; Mrs. Ellett very hospitably invited the fol- , lowers to partake of refreshments.
