NEWS FROM THE MINES. [BY TELEGRAM.— CORRESPONDENTS.] Thames, Friday. NONI'ARI'H.. Black and party, tributers, upon the Liverpool reef in the western block, have secured 4oz 19dwt of gold, valued at £14 2s 6d, from a crushing of nine loads of general dirt. MAY QTJKEN" HAURAKI. The prospects of the slopes above No. 6 level, Saxon section, maintain a general uniformity throughout, the general ore coming to hand at the present time being of about the same quality as that obtained for several months past. Altogether a block about 375 ft in length is being sloped, the reef averaging a foot in thickness, although it is considerably larger in the western section of the stopes than it is in the eastern end. The supply of ore forthcoming is sufficient to keep 22 head of stampers employed at the company's mill on a shift of eight hours per diem, the other 10 head being given up to public crushing. The eastern drive upon No. 1 reef, at No. 6 level, is still being pushed ahead with the aid of the rock drill. This latter drive is now in a distance of about 300 ft from the main crosscut, but so far the reef has proved of comparatively little value. There is still, however, a distance of 200 ft to drive before meeting the main break. CoROMANim, Friday. I'OHUTU COMPANY. The general manager of this company (jut. Reynolds) informs me that he has made arrangements for the erection, on the mine, of a two-head Trcmain steam stamp from Gates. Iron Works, Chicago, which will be equivalent to about five head of ordinary crushing plant. It will be erected within a fortnight, some of the machinery being already on the ground. With this small plant it is" intended to thoroughly test the value of the various lodes in the property, and, if favourable returns result, provision lias been made for the erection of a ten head, up-to-date, crushing plant, to be driven by water power, of which there is ample available. It may be mentioned that arrangements bad been made for the treatment of 50 tons of ore at Scotty's battery, but after a few loads had been conveyed there the condition of the roads made it expedient to abandon this, and the erection of the testing plant was decided upon.
