[from OUR own correspondents.] Hcntly, Monday. Constable White left hero this morning to take up his now duties at Auckland, and Constable Howell takes charge of Huntly. Meantime Constable Oliphant is in charge until the arrival of Constable and Mrs. Howell. About 1200 tons of coal were put mil from the mines here during last week. The mines are working nearly full time, Ralph's mine working the six days. Our amateurs must be proud of the reception that their production, "The Tickct-of-leave Man," received on Friday night. There was a liumpei house, and the entire performance i& spoken of with unstinted praise. Tho scenery was, as promised, a revelation, nothing approaching it having been seen here before, and does credit to the artist. »A new wharf is being erected on the Waikato lliver, to the order of Ralph's Taupiri Coal Company, for convenience in shipping coal by steamer, to customers at a distance from the railway, but near the river bank, between Mercer and Ngaruawahia. ' Tk Aw.amutu, Monday. At (lie monthly meeting of the Town Board it was agreed to strike a rate of three farthings in the £, payable on September 1. The chairman and Mr. Teasdalo wero instructed to get the culvert in Redoubt-street lengthened when the formation of the street is completed. It was decided to do necessary work, on the liangiaoliia Road as soon as possible. The Rangiaohia Road Board met on Saturday. It was agreed that: should tho parties interested in tlio proposed Walkers' cutting rubscribo £10, the Board would call for tenders for the work. The Board offered to remunerate the chainnan for time lost in superintending contracts, but tho chairman declined to accept any remuneration for tho work. At a meeting of tlie__Ngaroto Drainage Board to-day, it was decided to accept the offer of Mr. E. do C. Drnry, of Hamilton, to act as engineer, and the clerk was instructed to write, asking Mr. Drury to proceed with the necessary work as soon as possible, in order that his estimate might be in by next mooting. Mr. 11. Roche, of Ohaupe, was appointed classifier of land for the Board. Kihikihi, Monday A meeting of ratepayers of the Kihikihi town district, held to-day, unanimously decided in favour of closing a number of streets.
