At the Epsom Summer Meeting to-day, the following was the result of— The Oaks Stakes of 4500sovs, For threeyear.olds fillies, 9st each. The nominator of the winner to receive 400aova, the owner of the second 200sovs, and the owner of the third lOOsovs out of the stakes. About one mile and a-half. Blundell Maple's br f Nun Nicer, by Common— 2 Mr. Fairic's br f Cauliflower, by Common —Ethel Agnes 3 The winner, Airs and Graces, was bred by her owner, the Duke of Portland. As a two-year-old she started on five occasions, winning one of her engagements, which was the Hardwickc Stakes at Stockton. Nun Nicer, who finished second to Airs and Graces, won the One Thousand Guineas last mouth at Newmarket, and she would probably be the favourite for the Oaks,

AN AUCKLAND-BRED HORSE SOLD FOR TEN THOUSAND GUINEAS. London, May 27. The German Government has purchased the stallion Carnage for 10,000 guineas.

Carnage, who is the latest addition to the list of high-priced stallions was bred at Sylvia Park, Auckland, by the now defunct New Zealand Stud Company, and at tho dispersal of the stud in 1891 lie was purchased when a foal along with his dam Mersey for 2300 guineas by Mr. VV. It. Wilson, of Victoria, He won soino noteworthy races for tho Victorian sportsman, amongst which was the V.R.O. Derby. Carnage formed one of the prizes in the St. A 1 ban's art union, when Mr. Wilson disposed ot his stud by that means in 1895, and he Was drawn by a resident of Sydney, who re-sold him to Mr. Wilson. The horse was subsequently purchased from Mr. Wilson by the owners of the Cobham Stud and sent to England, where he has served two seasons. Carnage was got by Nordenfeldt from Mersey, the dam of Carbine, so that lie claims the latter as a three-parts brother.
