THE PERMANGANATE PROCESS.
Professor Black and Mr. Dennison, during their ten days' stay in the Thames and Ohinemuri districts, visited Waihi, Karangahake, and the Waiomu Valley, and were shown over the most important mines in these localities. They also procured; for experimental treatment parcels of the most refractory ores obtainable, And the results of their experiments over a period of seven or eight days were considered satisfactory. Professor Black returns to Dunedin to-day, Mr. Dennison remaining at the Thames for the present to arrange for the use of the process qn the field. Several mine managers have expressed themselves highly satisfied with the results obtained so fur, Mr. Allen director of tho School of Mines, has received this as one of the recognised processes for gold extraction, and is prepared to, report on its suitability for the ores of the district.
