DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.
Information has been received from Horn*' that one of New Zealand's earliest colonists is dead. We allude to Mr. William Brown, who in the early days was in partnership with Dr. Campbell, in Sbortland-street. In the year 1840, both these gentlemen were living on Motu Korea (Brown's Island), before the British Government established rule in the colony. In December of that year the partnership was established between Mr, Brown and Dr. Campbell which was continued till 1872, since which date Dr. Campbell has been the only representative of is firm. When Government was first established in the colony, Governor Hobson nominated Mr. Brown a member of the Executive, and subsequently Mr. Brown became the Superintendent of the Province of Auckland, resigning in 1855, when, he went Home, and has not again returnee! to the colony. His name is still held in kind remembrance of the early colonists, and the news of bis death will remind all that one of the pioneer, founders of the city of Auckland has gone , to his rest. - - i He died; in 'London' at the ripe age of 86 years. .
