[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Thames, Wednesday. Mr. Wsi. Scott was this evening duly installed as Mayor. [BY telegraph.— ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Wednesday. It was intended to unveil the portrait of the late Judge Richmond in the Courthouse to-day, but Judge Kettle said it was the privilege of a Supreme Court Judge to perform the ceremony, hence lb was deferred till Judge Conolly'a next visit. Wellington, Wednesday. A deputation from the New Zealand Alliance waited on the Minister of Justice to-night and strongly urged that no license bo granted .to the present temperance hotel at Mangaiveka. It was stated that 35 per cent, of the signatures to the petition praying that a license be granted were those of persons living outside the prescribed radius, or of those [who were under age. The Hon. T. Thompson, in reply, stated the position in regard to the license bad not altered since the previous session, when he was deputationised on tho subject, and so far as he know there was no intention of granting a license. At a meeting of the managing committee of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association it was decided to approve of the programme of the regatta to bo held at Hamilton on December 30th, provided it was carried out under the association rules,
and the lion, secretary was specially instructed to point out that the maiden races must he rowed in clinker outriggers as defined by the association. The Ngaruawahia Rowing Club has applied for affiliation to the association, and desires to be allowed to compete at the Hamilton regatta.
The Warrimo sails at midnight for Sydney. Among the passengers are. the Hon. S. L&rke (Commissioner for Canada in Australasia), Mr. Robert Grayson (of fluddarfc and Parker and Co,), and Mr. Wark. A woman named Mary Richards has been fined £10 for sly grog selling. Ib has been reported to the police ab Masterton that E. A. Cameron has been missing since Thursday, when he took a gun and went out, it is believed, rabbib shooting. / Carterton, Wednesday. A three-year-old son of Mr. F. N. Graham fell down a well to-day and was drowned. The principal i attraction will be the floral fete, for .which over- 200 ,entries ore received for the various competitions.
