HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of - the Hospital ! and Charitable Aid Board was held at the Boards offices yesterday ; afternoon, Mr. Jas.Stiobbury " (Chairman), presiding . ■ The other members' present were'' Messrs. 'Children's Hospital.—As the architect had not prepared the tenders for .the proposed children's hospital, for' presentation, the opening of the same was deferred lor a fortnight. ■ • AiD.-The Charitable Aid • Charitable - Aid.—The Charitable Aid Committee reported : that four old persons had been admitted as inmates to the Costley Home, two were recommended for. admission. The report was adopted. i. . Hospital Report. medical superintendent's report stated that the number ot patients in words at last return (November '6) was males 94,' females 36. The Chairman-moved that a copy of the medical superintendent's report be sent to Mr. Davis, and intimated that if lie (Davis)-then thought fit he could make further complaint. ' This was agreed to. fjr j ' Costley, Home Assistant.—Tim manager of the Costley Home wrote, complaining that John Lawrence, recently appointed assistant lit' that institution, had been found unfitted for the duties, and set forth the reasons for the complaint. The most important of these stated that Lawrence had -been frequently iu conflict .with and adopted an , over-bearing attitude towards the patients, also being lax in' attention anil attendance generally. . It was decided, on the motion of the Chairman, to immediately dismiss Lawrence. ,'V\ !;{ Costlev ' Home : Report.-Jlm report of the manager of the Costley Borne showed that there were 118 men and 50 women in the institution at the last return. ;,Morthcote Leases.—The committee appointed to visit the Northcote endowments recommended that the Public Trustee. be requested to reduce the rentals paid by Messrs.!!, Slattery, S. Hulbert, M. Parrish, E. ;J.' White,' L. S. Maxwell, and C. W. .Sanders,'reduction. to be the ' same as that madofivo years since, viz., 50 per cent. It was decided; to reduce for ; a term of five years. 1 ' .; Standing Orders.— to , notice, Mr.:- Gordon moved, "That standing order No. Ibe amended as follows Leaving out 'unanimous vote of-the members present,' and insert the following words—' vote of not less than half the members present' instead, ana if passed that standing order No. 17 be altered accordingly." This was lost. Salaries. — In accordance with notice given, Mr.' Gordon moved, "That in future it shall be an order of the Board that the salaries of all officers and servants of the Board shall be reviewed at the first meeting held in the month of March of each year, ami all such officers and servants shall hold their appointments subject to this provision.".
