SPORTING.

THEAUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S . SPRING MEETING. , , ~ NOTES AND ANTICIPATIONS. [BY PHAETON.] The A.K.C. will continue their spring meet, ing at 'Ellerelie to-day. At the j time ?of writing ...matters do not , bear a promising aspect from a weather point of view; but should the club be fortunate in having a fine day there need be little doubt of the sport being well in keeping with the importance of the gathering.: .-■ The programme to be gone throngh consists ..of. eight events, ; the 'opening one of which is . the Spring Handicap. St. Clement, St. Gordon, aud Lady Marion should run well, and that trio will, I think, supply the placed division., Nor'-West and Muscatel will, I think, fight out the finish in the.Hurdle Race, and if the former is ridden a different race to that which he was on the opening day, he should win. The issue :in the Nursery Handicap has been well concealed, couple that will, 1 think, run well, are St. Innis and Hermosa. Fabulist, Angler, and Panoply read to me the likely place-getters inUhe Prince of Wales' Handicap," and should he not be required to run his race in heavy going, Fabulist should, I think, just about get home., The Steeplechase promises to provide a capital contest, and Perform may be the one to get home in front, though Belle, if quite.herself, should run well. In the Maiden Handicap Tim and Lufra read like a pair that will run well; and the first named may win. Previous running may perhaps throw some light on the Ellerslie Handicap, but a pair that I like are St, Elmo and Porangi Potae. The following are the acceptauces :— '. Spuing handicap.
