The Gazette notifies that capitation allowances to Education Boards for the quarter ending on the 30th day of September, 1897, shall be according to the working average attendance of the quarter ending on the 30th day of June, 1897, as the working average was defined .by Order-in-Council dated sth day of July, 1887, and made under psovisions of the before-mentioned Act.

The Ohinemari Rifle Volunteers have been accepted, New Zealand war medals have been issued to Bugler Samuel Knight, New Zealand, Taranaki .Militia; Private David Jordan, No. 2 Company, Taranaki Riflo Volunteers j Private Levi Snrten, No. 1 Company, Taranaki Rifle- Volunteers.
The following colonies hare removed the prohibition of importation of swine from New Zealand : Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, West Australia, and Tasmania.
