The meeting to held to-nighb all Danevirke will probably open the political campaign of the rocesa. The district; is in the electorate of Mr. Hunter, M.H.R, The meeting has been convened by the opponent:!) of the Government. The Hon. Captain Ruesoll, M.B.R, (Leader of the Opposition), Mr. Douglas McLean, M.H.It,, and Mr. Hunter are expected to speak. THE LATE SUBURBS CONTEST. A social in honour of Mr. A. R. Atkinson, will be giren on the 4th of June, when a puree of sovereigns in acknowledgement of Mr. Atkinson's sort ices to the district will be presented to liim. THE POLICE. The Pioton constable (Jeffries) who was removed from hie position in the force and from the clerkship of the local Court, has asked for an inquiry, but the request has been rofused. A WARNING. Mr. A. Collins, the presidenb of the Trades Council, states that there are a down persons in the Government Printing Office who could live on their means, and recommends that steps should be taken to compel them to give way to others who are in urgent need of work.
THE NEW ZEALAND READER. Mr. Hojrg, ftI.H.R., to-day iu tho Board of Education advocated the use of this bonk in the State schools. He thought tho Board ot Education should supply their own books. This book was compiled under the auspices of the present) Agent-General when Minister of Education.
