T|]® sad event was not ' unexpected at his advanced age (73). l|r, Boardman caught a* cold while officially attending the meeting of tho New Zealand \ Ji 1 : Rifle Association at the North Shore, which || developed into a bronchial affection, with 'if. great weakness. Notwithstanding the Jl skill and attention of his medical attendant •-§. (Dr. Baynlun), he gradually sank, aid ft yesterday death terminated his sufferings. M He leaves a widow aid one son to mourn 'fit their loss. Deceased Was a native of Bolton, vf| South Lancashire. Ho was elected Mayor Vi of Auckland last year, faking office on Dec, iki 16, but, owing to continued ill-health, he "fit was obliged to resign the duties of his '•£> office, his successor tying Mr. Peter Dignan. ■s| Mr, Boardman was ajvery old colonist, and ft a resident of Auckland for 33 years, having ?#| arrived here while the AVaikato campaign (fe was in full progress, 'He occupied various ill Government appointments, namely, Com- . >{f{ missloner to investigate the losses of set- , If tiers during Che war, ifod also held that for '(§ some time of Curator of Intestate Estates. When the South British Insurance Company was established, .->§ Mr. Boardman became first genera manager, but ultimately had to retir< .Jl through ill-health. Ho was an activt #.«j memher of the Anglican Church, and foi Q many years served in the Auckland '.■fjf Diocesan Synod, From 1866, when All vjj Saints', Ponsonby, vas opened by Bishop "fj Selwyn, he has coniinnally held one ot || other of the laymen's offices connected with , it, He was for 17 yoira continuously one fig of its. representatives in the Synod, and «§ was one of its nominators for a new clergy. W man in case of a vacancy. In addition Mr. m Boardman was a member of the standing p committee of the Diocesan Pension Board, jjj| and a member of the Synod. He was for t|| long a member of several Trust Boards VJ connected with the diocese. p£> A fUneral service will take place at All ® Saints' Church, Ponsonby, to-morrow after- H noon, at half-past two, and the interment p at Pufewa. Flags were displayed halfmast p at the Municipal Buildings, Fire Brigade. § station, and at Albert Park, out of respect 6 to the memory of tho deceased gentleman, || who had long enjoyed the respect and i esteem of his fellow-citizens. . -f|
