TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—Referring to the collision on the Ponsonby Road reported in four column a to-day, while I have satisfaction in stating that Messrs. Keir and Co. (late Parker) hare settled the matter of damage* in the most straightforward manner, expressing their regret, and assuring mejthat their instructions to their employees ire to be a* careful as possible., Still, the tact remain* that, not one only, but many drivers belonging to various companies and interest* drive w recklessly ae to needlessly endanger life. They are also tery unfair to other travellers, in not observing the acknowledged rules of the road, and unless some (ever* and drastic measure* are taken, and that speedily, will result in lon of life one of these days. Public conveyances, carrying freight of human lives. ought to be restricted to a certain rate of speed per mile, thus leaving a margin in which to come to a staid quickly, which cannot be done when running at eight or nine mile* per hour, and heavily loaded; thii, ueder penalty of having their liceniea cancelled, and declining to renew them, If people placed in very reapouible positions will not exercise judgment and common sense then the strong arm of tht law most interfere and arrest them. Had such a law been in existence and obeyed on Saturday niget the 'bus ceuld have been stopped even when eur respective hone* might have been touching mm*.
