THE BUSHY PARK ESTATE.

MR. 6. HUTCHISON AND THE MINISTER OF LANDS.

AN AMUSING CORRESPONDENCE. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Wellington, Tuesday. The following correspondence hu caused a great deal of amusement —

Wellington, 26th April, 1897. The Hon. John MoKenzie, Wellington. Dear sir,— Yon are reported in the New Zealand Times of the 22nd instant as having stated at a public meeting held at Newtown on the previous night, with reference to the Bushy Park transaction, that if anyone wanted to he hear any more about Bushy Park, "he was prepared to give him a letter to his son's solicitors, and they could see the whole of the deeds," Might I ask you to let me have such an authority?-Yours truly, G. Hutchison. Office of the Minister of Land*, Wellington, April 96th, 1897. Dear sir.-Your letter of even date to hand. I extremely regret that as per usual you are a little too late, the fact of the matter being that the deeds referred to in your note went South by today's mail to my son at Bushy Park. However, I can suggest a way out of the difficulty which you may perhaps feel inclined to take. Go South, and ask him in person to allow you a perusal of the deeds. My son is a true-bred Highlander, and has all the characteristics of his race. I have not the slightest doubt he would give you a warm Highland reception, such as his forefathers were in the habit of giving to Sassennchs and Lowland loom. As I understand that you are an expert angler, you should take your fishing rod with you, and thus combine pleasure with business, If you are fond of shooting it will be unnecessary to take a gun, as I can vouch for it that my son will be only too happy to fix you up in this respect. While enjoying yourself there you would have ample opportunity of seeing the estate, and testing the quality of the soil.— am, etc., John MoKenzie. George Hutchißou, Esq., Wellington.
