COUNTERFEIT COINS.

CASE BEFORE THE COURT.

The young man, Frank Ryder Davies, the particulars of whose arrest on Monday evening for having uttered a gilded sixpence, have been already published, appeared yesterday morning, before Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., at the Polico Court, He was charged with having uttered a sixpence washed with gold, representing the game to be a half-sovereign to one Augustus Coates. Sergeant Clarke stated that, of late, quite a number of these counterfeit coins had been circulating, but the police had not been able to trace tho offenders. In the case of Edmund Burke, which was heard on Monday, one of those gilded coins was produced in Court. It was the one which Burke had tendered to the barmaid in the Waverly Hotel. Ho thought that in tho present case, however, the police had got to the head of these offences. A bottle of Judson's liquid gold, which had been found on the accused whon arrested, hnd, perhaps, been extensively used for this purpose. The police desired a remand till next Tuesday, to allow time for the full preparation ol their case. There were several charges besides tho present one pending against the same person. The accused pleaded guilty to having passed the coin, but said he had no intention to defraud. His Worship granted tho remand, admitting the defendant to bail in two surotios of £100 each. Near the end of the sitting the accused was brought in again and charged with bavin" uttered a gilded sixpence, representing it to be a half-sovereign, to George Otto, 'baa drivel' in the employ of Mr. Crawford. A remand tor the same period as allowed on the first chargo was granted, with similar bail.
