UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.

A Meeting of the Auckland University College Council was held yesterday afternoon. Sir G. M. O'Rorke presided, and there were also present: Messrs. S. Luke, F. E. Baume, Gerald Peacocke, J. Major, and Jackson Palmer.

New Members.-Mi'. S. Luke, chairmro of the Education Board, took his seat as is ex offitio member. On the motion of Mr. Baume the matter was referred to the Council's solicitors. Insurance of the Council Buildmss. —The question of revising the Council's insurances was left in of the Pro. perty Committee, with power to iusure with the four colonial companies. Conveniences fob Stddents.-A fottr was received from the Students' Association asking the Council to either set aside or erect a common room for the students, aud also to provide a lavatory for the male students. Mr. Baume strongly supported the claims of the students for a common room where they might indulge in social intercourse. At present there was only tbl library, and that was wanted by the student! for studying. The Chairman said the absence of a lavatory was doubtless only an oversight. On the suggestion of Mr. Baume a committee, consisting of Messrs. Major, Maelaurin, Peacocke, and Palmer, was appointed to consider the letter. Request fob Use of the Libbabt.-Id reply to a letter from the Auckland College Christian Union requesting permission t« use the College library on Wednesday evenings to hold a meeting, it was decided to state that the Council could not see its way clear to accede to the request. HEBREW.-On the motion of Mr. Baume, the subject Hebrew was added to the University syllabus. College LiBRAKY.-llr. Baume moved to keep_ the library open till nine p.m. instead ■■ of eight p.m., as at present. This wu agreed to. Notice of Motion.-Mr, lUuine j»v« notice of his intention to move at next meeting that notices of all alterations or proposed alterations in the time-tables be posted in the lobby for one week before being snbmitted to the Council.
