It was determined to invite kindred societies to join in the cost of obtaining an oil painting to perpetuate the memory of the late Judge Richmond.

About 36 local exhibitors are sending foods to the Brisbane Exhibition, and 44 send from other parts of the colony, besides the various Government departments. There is still aomo space left. Donedin, Monday. At meeting of the Otago Rugby Union Committee some indignation was expressed ab the exclusion from the Appeal Committee of the Otago representative who acted last yoar, Mr. James Hutchison (secretary of the Union), and it was unanimously decided to nominate Mr. Hutchison as vice-president of the New Zealand Union. Thomas Barrett, who wm released from gaol on the ground of increasing blindness, after serving seven years of a sentence of 10 years for serious assault, was called upon to day to answer four charges of larceny of harness. During the case one of the witnesses complained that accused threatened him as he left the box. Barrett was convicted on two charges and sentenced to six months and three months, sentences to be cumulative. Hβ was acquitted on the third charge, and an indictable offence was adjourned.

Invercabgill, Monday. Angus T. Kay, a well-kuown farmer at Balfour, met with a serious accident today, the wheel of a dray loaded with timber passing over him. The horse bolted, and Kay retained hold of the reins till he wae thrown down. K. Meakin, engine driver, wag shot in the arm at Kiverton, on Saturday, by a boy who picked up a gun, not knowing it was loaded. Meakin was only a few feet off, and the limb near the elbow was fearfully lacerated. ~
