A STORMY MEETING.
I DISSENSIONS AMONGST GOVERNMENT SUPPORTERS. [BT TELEGRAPH.— CORfiESPONbENT*.] Wellington, Saturday. There was a lively meeting df shareholders yesterday, called to coriGrm a resolution of the directors' passed at a previous meeting for the sale of the paper to a syndicate. Although the meeting was private a caiman bf rcp'brfc Ot the proceedings' appears in the evening paper. The Minister of Lands declared that he represented the Premier, and spoke as follows: fie was acting on beiialf bf Mr. SSddbh, and he ilnderstopd that a certain amendment propose by the Premier and carried had been omitted. At this stage the speaker, was Interrupted by the Chairman,, Wild declared with great heat that Mr. McKonzlo was talking rubbish.
Mr. Martin Kennedy Hied joined in the Interruption. The Hon. Mr. McKenzib denounced in warm terms the conduct of both gentlemen as being gratuitously insulting and offensive. He was there in the exercise of a duty to the Premier of the colony, and he would riot allow either the chairman or Mr. Kennedy to behave to him' in so improper a manner. . The meeting elf bngly applauded the hon. gentle re dark a. Several shareholders' spoke' as to the accuracy of the minutes,, and ori the question Being bub 14 Hands were held up against ahd ll for Confirmation. TH6 chairman declared the* meeting against the correctness of the minutes, A poll was then demanded by Messrs. Martin Kennedy, Skerritti and John Young. Proxies were produced, and the confirmation of the minutes was carried by 1459 to 189 votes. Mr. Kennedy McDonald moved an adjournment of the meeting sine die; so as to stop the sale, which was carried, the reason for the Motion being thdt the sale would only glvo 10s for each 20s share. Then tiiore was a breeze between Mr. MoKcrizie and. some ether shareholders. Tjio whole of the proceedings are described as "stormy throughout;" amidst which the chairman declared the amendment carried. The" resolutions of the directors have been set aside:
