TRAGEDY AT LEICESTER.

A YOUTH CHARGED WITH HIS

FATHER'S DEATH. A tragic affair took place at Leicester a few days ago. A young man named Harry Broughton, aged 19, on returning home from work about six o'clock, found his father, Samuel Broughton, in bed. and apparently drunk. Exasperated, it is said, by the older man's conduct, the lad fetched a coal hammer from downstairs, and going to the bedside, struck his father a fearful blow on the head with the weapon, fracturing the skull and inflicting a ghastly wound. The injured man was immediately taken to the infirmary, where he died later. The ion, who made no attempt to escape, was taken into custody. At the inquest, evidence .was given by a younger son to the effect that the prisoner, before striking the fatal blow with tho hammer, struck his father with his fist before the latter went upstairs to bed, and that angry words were used by the son to the father respecting the tatter's drunken habit*. .. The jury returned a verdict of" wilful murder" against Harry Broughton. . .. . . .. >
