[BY TELKQBAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. FLAX DRESSING.

The Government have further extended the time within which applications tor bonuses for new processes and machinery for flax-dressing may be received.

LOCAL BODIES LOAN ACT. The Colonial Treasurer has fixed 26th Hay as the date for applications to be made under this Act.

DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE. The Minister (Mr. Thompson) is expected to arrive here to-night. He is severely taken to task by the Southern papers for releasing a man named Barret, who was undergoing a sentence of ten years penal servitude who is again in the hands of justice. Another case is brought against the Department in respect of a young woman who threw herself and child into theesiuary at Invercargill. She was found to be insane by the jury. It is now stated that she has recovered her senses and all efforts made to procure her release have been futile. The greatest sympathy is felt for this woman.
