THE MARIPOSA! A QUICK TRIP The mail steamer Mariposa, Captain H. W. Hayward, arrived from San Francison, Honolulu, and Apia, shortly after ten o'clock yesterday morning, after a very smart trip of 18 days 10 hours actual steaming time. The Mariposa during the time mat she has been laid up in San Francisco has undergone a complete overhaul in all departments, under the supervision of Mr. P. _W. Hart (chief officer), and Mr. Haines (chief engineer). Mr. Thomas Smith, the purser of the steamer for some years, did not come down this trip, being away on a visit to Ireland. Mr. N. C. Walton, of the compauy's office in San Francisco, taking up the position. The Mariposa left San Francisco at 1.8 p.m. on the 3rd instant, having been delayed owing to the British mails arriving late. Honolulu was reached at 3 a.m. on the 10th, and the steamer resumed

her voyage at 2.57 p.m. the same date. Apia harbour was made at 10.53 a.m. on the 17th, and left again at 3.30 p.m. the same date. Fine weather was experienced all the way, and the steamer berthed at the Queen-street Whart about 10 a.m. yesterday. The Mariposa left for Sydney at half-past ten o'clock last night.

THE FLORA. Yesterday morning the Union Company's steamer Flora, Captain R. Neville, arrived from the South with a cargeof general produce Mr. George Holford, the chief officer, reports that the steamer left Dunedin wharf at 11.40 a.m. on the 19th inst., and cleared Otago Heads at 12.20 p.m., arriving at Omnaru at 4.40 p.m. same date. Discharged 40 tons of cargo and took 350 tons of produce for Auckland. Sailed at 4.20 a.m. on the 20th, passed Akaroa at 3 p.m. the same date, and bad Cape Palliser abeam at 7 a.m. on the 21st, signalled the s.s. Tasmania at 11.45 p.m. bound South, off Portland Island. Rounded the East Capo at 9 a.m. on the 22nd, had Tiritiri abeam at 3.15 a.m. on the 23rd, and made fast to the wharf at 520 a.m. Experienced light to fresh N.E. andN.W. winds with fino clear weather and smooth sea throughout. The Flora leaves for Fiji tomorrow morning under the oommand of Captain N. Beaumont, who arrives from Wellington by the Taknpuna. THE GOLDFINCH. H.M.B. Goldfinch is expected to arrive at this port from Sydney on Wednesday next. During her stay in port she will undergo a considerable overhaul, lenders for whloh are called for by Captain Rason. of the Royalist, the senior officer on the New Zealand division. THE WAIAPU. The schooner Waiapu arrived at Gisborne from Timaru yesterday. She was four days in the recent gale, but came through without any damage. THE ROYAL TAR-A RECORD PASSAGE. I The record passage from Melbourne to [ Newcastle lias just been made by Mr. J. J. Craig's barque, Royal Tar, she having arrived at Newcastle on the 60th hour after leaving Melbourne. The Royal Tar holds several record passages from various ports which have not yet been lowered. The vessel proceeds with coal to Wellington and thence to the Kaipara to load timber for Melbourne.

THE TOT LINE. The ludramayo left for Gisborne and the South last evening. The Star of England lias arrived at Melbourne from London yesterday, and on discharge proceeds to Sydney and then comes on to Auckland. THE SEMINOLE. The American barque Seminole from NewCastle to Honolulu, fears tor the safety of which were entertained, owing to it being thought she met with the same gale which disabled the Sea King and the Charles F. Crocker, arrived safely at Honolulu on the sth inst. The vessel fell in with the gale, and had a very trying experience, it taking the donkey boiler on board all it could do for three days to keep the vessel clear of the water made. PORT OF ONE HUNG A.
