THE JUBILEE COMMEMORATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—l think that the proposed children's hospital would be a fitting memorial of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Is there a convalescent home in Aucklaad, the tame as in Auckland ? I believe that that it a very useful institution. If thought desirable to establish a scholarship, 1 would suggest that a travelling scholarship for Artstndenta would be a good thing, as it would help New Zealand native talent to reach a higher plane than it now possible except in case* of sons of wealthy parent*. I noticed in the Herald recently, that such a scholarship has already been established in, I think, Victoria, ana that the bolder had a fixture in the Pari* Salon. The dinners to the poor generally end in dissatisfaction, and there is .always a risk of a miniature St. Peteisburg scramble. Wellington has got a start in the way of statues, but Auckland does not seem bent that way. ' Otherwise,' there might be one of the Queen, as a beginning—be followed bv one of Sir George Grey.-I am. etc., D. Whakataoe, April 18tb, 1 1897.
