It has been oommonly thought that the Minister of Lands is tho author of the 640 acre limitations of fireb-olass, and 2000 acres of sucond-class land that can be held. The following revelation was raadi last night at Mr. Atkinson's meeting. Mr, Hislop took tho opportunity to correct a statement made by Mr. Atkinson that the present Minister for Lands was the author of the provision In the land laws of the colony, limiting tho urea of Crown land, which could be acquired by one porspn bo 6-10 acres first-class, and '2000 acres aeconilclas* land. Sir H.irry Atkinson first appliod tho principle to tho Crown lande of the colony, and Messrs. Rolleston and Richardson had applied it to different leasehold tenures under which Crown land wus acquired. NEW ZEALAND VETERANS.
