ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held last might. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr. D. A. Sutherland), Messrs. Colledge, Nixon, Burden, McKenzie, Hill, Rowe, and Lulling. Petitions.—A petition signed by 60 ratepayers and others was received asking the Council to level and lay down on the Recreation Reserve about five acres in grass suitable for a bicycle track, a running track, and cricket ground. The Council considered the work would be too expensive. It was decided not to grant the request. Finance.—The treasurer read his usual financial statement which showed a credit balance on each acount as follows General account, £117 2s 2d; waterworks account, £173 lis 9d; Recreation Reserve's account, £1119s 4d; Domain account, £4165; due to Borough fund, £99 9s 3d. ! Hack Races.—The Council in committee reported having considered an application from 6. Slator, lessee of the Recreation Reserve, for permission to hold a race meeting on the reserve with closed gates, and recommend that the request be refused. The Mayor moved that the recommendation be adopted. Mr. Burden moved as an amendment that the' request be granted. The amendment was carried by five to three, the voting being—Ayes: Messrs. Colledge, Nixon, McKenzie, Burden, and Hill. Noes: The Mayor, Messrs. Rowe and Laking. Borough Soucitob's Account. — The Cohncil in Committee reported that it had no recommendation to make re the above account. Mr, Nixon moved the adoption of the report. The Mayor moved that the account be paid. This was lost on the casting rote of the Mayor. A second amendment, that further consideration of the account be deferred until next meeting, was carried. Obnoxiodi Weeds.-The question of compelling all ratepayers to remove obnoxious was referred to the Council in Committee to consider and report. s
