WAIRARAPA. Messrs. Lowks and lorns report at their fortnightly sale :-\V«»K»in had a very full yarding in both sheep and cuttle. 11l fat and store wethers some first-class offered, these making the best prices of the soason so far. Put ewes also sold at advanced rates. All Rood breeding ewes were well competed for, also strong lambs. One exceptional line lot in this class making the record price for this season. In cattle » large number came forward, and the quality being good competition was fairly brisk, only a few remaining unsold. Fat wethers ranged from 8u to 8s 7d • forward wethers, 7s to 7s 9d; backward stores, 6s 0(1; fat ewes, Gs to 0* 6d ; forward ewes 4s to ss; best breeding ewes, 6s Oα ; others, 4s 6d to 5a 6d ; culls, 2s Id to 2s 9(1 j one special lot of woolly lambs made 7s ; others, ss; shorn, 3s 6d to 4s 9d; Lincoln rams, 425 ; Leicestere, 20s to 30s ; Romneys, 10s to 15s. Fat steers, 95s to 97s 6d ; fat heifers, 70s; forward steers, 78s; stores, 55s to 655; 2-year, 503; yearling and 18-montne, 40s; best calves, 24i ; others, lib to 18s 6d ; store cowl, 42s to 475; heifers, 50s.
STRATFORD. The Eqmont Farmers' Union (Limited) Hawera, report on April 15:—We held an unreserved clearing sale on behalf ol Air. John Taylor, Pembroke Road, Stratford, on the Bth instant. The day was a very wet one, which had a depressing effect upon bidding, although there was a large number of persona present. The cows were a good line, but with winter coming on they did not realise iia much as they would have done a few weeks' ago. All the sundries sold very well. We quote: Dairy cows, £4 to £6 15s; dairy heifers, £3 5s tn £5 12s 6d : springing heifers, £3 6s to £610s; horses, £8 to £17 2a 6d. At Stratford sale on the 9th instant there was not a large muster of cattle, doubtless owing to the wet weather, but bidding was spirited for what were there, mid most lines changed haods. We quote : Fat bullocks, £52s ocl to £6; fat COWS, £2 18s to £3 4a; store cows, £2 2s 6d to £2 8s; weanera, mixed, 15s to ISs | calves, 8s to lie od. We held our fortnightly sale in the Glover Road yards, Hawera, on the 14th inst., when we had a full entry of both sheep and cattle. Ridding »a» good all round, except lor fat stock, so that nearly everything was sold at the hammer or immediately after, bheep were also in good demand, aud with the exoeption of a pen of fat lambi, these all changed hands. We quote :-Fat bullocks, exceptionally heavy weight, up to £7 15s! fat bullocks, lieht weights, £417s 6d to £5 3s 6d; fat and forward bullocks, £4 to £4 15s ; 2i to 3 vear steers, £213s to £3 6s; fat cows and heifers, £2 4a to£3 6s6d; 18-moothi to 2-year steers, £2 4s to £2 7s 6d; yearling steers, £1 Is to £113s: yearling heifers, 18s to £14s. Sheep: Woolly lambs, 4s 6d to 6s sd; dry ewes, 5s 3d to 5s 6d; fat ewes, 6s 6d to 7s. .
