It appears that the phenomenal development of the manufacture of the cycle, along with the increased consumption for olectriail purposes, has brought the time when the demand for rubber will exceed the supply almost within measurable distance. Already some difficulty u experienced in getting sufficient rubber to meet current needs, and unless the natural supply u supplemented by cultivation of indiarubber yielding plants it is possible that the price will rise enormously witWn tho next few years owing to the failure of a great proportion of the existing plantations.' Owners of plantations in West Africa are hastening this time of famine by recklessly tipping thoir trees to meet the ever •increasing demand.
