GRAND EASTER CARNIVAL.
The interior of the Drill Hall, where the Grand Easter Carnival promoted in aid of the mipsion to streets and lanes is proceedin", presented a most animated scene last evening; in fact, so largo was the attendance throughout that great difficulty was experienced by those anxious to witness the multitudinous attractions in attaining their object. Quite apart from the deserving cau*o the many exhibits of interest, the mirth-provoking side shows, and amusements provided would be more than sufficient to recompense the outlay of the moderate tariff charged for admission. Last evening k series of delightfully realistic tableaux vivants were arranged and carried out by Mr* , . H. Williamson, who, on tho previous night, was in attendance at Mrs. Jarley's waxworks exhibition; the last appearance of which is announced for to-night, The fair vendors of" buttouholes," refreshments, and various article*, both useful and ornamental, inseparable from bazaars and functions of a like nature, plied a,Very busy trade, and the carnival bide fair to return a handsome surplus for the deserving object for which it has been promoted. The Auckland Banjo, Mandolin, and Guitar Club were announced to contribute selections last evening, but at the last moment found themselves unable to fulfil the engagement; their notification to that effect being given so late that the management was unable to arrange in time for attractions to fill in. The carnival will continue open this aftermon and evening, finally closing at ten p.m. Quite a series of fresh attractions are promised.
