IMPORTANT AMALGAMATION. We were able, yesterday, to notify tho fact of an important amalgamation of two old established local firms, which has caused quite n stir in commorcltd circles. The firms, Bβ ulrontly indiouted, are Messrs. Brown, Campbell and Co., and Messrs. IShrenfried Brothors, the woll-known brewers and wine and spirit morchunts. Negotiations, it appears, were entered into between Dr. J. L. Campbell and Mr. Louis Ehronfried, with the object now attained. But, unfortunately, the untimoly death of the latter caused a temporary delay. However, the negotiations wore resumed by the late Mr. Ehronfried's successor, Mr. Arthur M. Myers, and hiwo now been finally completed. The business of Maura, Brown, Campbell and Co, was established us far back as 1840, and that of Mesire. Ehronfried in 1808, and during the whole of theso periods both firms have gained tho respect of the community, and there is no doubt that the policy which secured the individual firms their good repute will be maintained in the future by the amalgamated funis. The two busi noises have been formed into a limited liability company with a capital of £300,000, tliti shares in which have been subscribed for by the members of the two firms. The date of incorporation is the Ist May next, and thence forward the business nf the smnlgamitod firms will be curried on in their enlarged promises, Queen-streot Wharf, the contraot for which was let about six weeks ago, and will cost over £2000, under the style and titlo of The Campbell and Ehrenfried Company, Limited. Dr. Campbell will be chairman of directors of the company, and Mr. Arthur Al. Myers managing director, while Mr. Alfred S. Bankart, at present manager for Messrs. Brown, Campbull and Co., will be the sooretary. The third dirootor will be Mr. Loo M. Myers. The alterations now being carried out at Queen street, where the head office of tho amalgamate!) firm will be situated, include the addition of two stories to the building, which will then be of the name height as Palmerston Buildings. The collars will be used for the purpose of bottling. On the ground floor will bo the private offico* of the managing director and eecrotary, and on the other side of the main entranco the counting house, a large eampln room for the convenience of customers being placed immediately behind. At tho rear of these officoe will be a spacious store for wines and spirits. A winding ptairway will lead to the noxt ' floor, on which will be a large board-room. Tho third floor will be utilised for the manufacture and bottling of cordials, the upper floor forming the washing and storage department. A one ton lift, constructed hy Messrs. A. and J. Price, of the Thames, will connect each floor from the cellars up. It is the intention to brew all the beer required for the customers of the new company in the Albert Brewery, in Queon«treet (which has been extennvoly added to, in view of the amalgamation, so ai to bring its capacity up to 18,000 hogdioadd per year), the Domain Brewery, however, being kept ready for immediate use should ocr-a'ion require. The wine and spirit store in Short-land-street will also be closed, that part of the business also being transferred to the Qoeenstreeb Wharf.
