MESSRS. ALFRED BUCKLAND AND SOXS' REPORT. At the Haymarket oaten sheaves hare brought from Is 6d to 2s 9d the owt, meadow hay Is Gd to 2s 6d, pressed hay 3s 6d ; chaff, 3s to 3s 3d ; straw, 103 to 19s the load ; maize, on wharf, 2s 8d per bushel. At the horse sale on Friday, stock in moderate supply, nearly all being sold at late prices. The sale of Mr. McKean's, at Whangarata, was largely attended, the stock and implements all selling at satisfactory prices. On Tuesday hides were pitched in fall number and late prices sustained, heavy ox brought from 4j to fijjtf per lb: medium, 4d to 4Jd ; light ox and cow from 3|d to 3jd ; calfskins, 4d to od ; tallow, lis 6d to 13s thecwt, and bones, 3s 6d. Pelts from Is to 2s 7d each : lamb skins, 2s to 3s 2d ; wool, ojd to 6d per lb. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cows at profit, in usual supply, were at Lite values. Prices for those at profit were from £3 to £5 12s Git each. Store cattle in less numbers than usual; grown steers at lower values. Weaned calves and yearlings kept their price. Few young calves yarded; wellfatted calves plentiful, but were required, and fully kept late values. Fat cattle in average number, 190 sold, were firm at last week's quotations, 16s to 17s for steers, 12s to 16s the lOOlbs for cows. Steers ranged in price from £5 15s to £810s ; cows, £3 10s to £6 10s each. Sheep and lambs, short of usual Dumber, advanced in prices from la to 2s each. At our weekly sale on Tuesday a large catalogue was cleared under good competition from a full attendance of buyers. Hides : The market remains very firm. We quote : Prime stout ox, fid to 6jd; heavy stout, 3d to BJd ; light and medium, 3j{d to 4Jd: cow hides, 3|d to 3|d; pioked, to 4gd; sloppy, a shade less ; caltskius, 3d to sd; kip, 3d to 3Jd; stags, l£d. Sheepskins: Prices advanced on the week, largo pelts selling at 3s to 3s lid ; medium, 2s 3d to 3s 9d ; small, la 6(1 to 2^. Wool : We offered about 30 packages, mostly inferior, which sold at latn quotations. Crossbreds, 5d to ojd ; lambs, 4|d to s|d ; pieces, washed 4d to 6|d, greasy 3d to4d. "Tallow: We quote best to 14s 6d ; medium, lis 9d to I.ls. Horsehair is worth Is lb. Grain: In sympathy with Southern and Australian markets, feed grains have experienced a sharp rise. Oats : Sales in parcels of short bright feed have been made at 2s 6d and 2s 7d, with prices expected to rule higher. Maize : Active enquiry. Potatoes: The market is well supplied, and arc worth up to £4 per ton delivered into store. Bonedust: Good demand at £5 10s; blood and bone manure, £5. Grass seed: Owing to late fine weather there have been some good burns and seed has been selling freely. We quote: Cocksfoot, 7s fid bushel; Canterbury rye grass, 4s Oil bushel. NORTHERN STOCK. SALES. Messrs. Hunter and Wilson report:— At Towai, on March 27, a fair muster of cattle and sheep sold freely. At Poroti, on April 1, a good muster of grown cattle elicited fair competition. At Ruatangata, on April 5, over the advertised number of cattle were penned, and mostly sold at satisfactory prices to vendor". At Hikurangi, on April 6, about the advertised number of cattle came forward, and the greater part of the entry sold at last month's values. At Whangareion April 8,4000dd head of cattle found purchasers. Store cattle and beef were slightly lower in price than the previous mouth, but springers, close to profit, sold at an advance in price. We quote : Beef, 55 sold. 14s to 16s per 1001b ; springers, 70 sold, £212s fid to £0 Is ; store cowi, £1 10s to £2 S3; bulls, £3 to £4 10s; b.illocks, suitable for workers, £7 10s; 3-year-old steers, £3 10s to £3 17s 6d; 2 to 2i-years ditto, £2 lis to £3 3s ; 9to 18-months steers, £1 10s to £2 7s; 18 months to 2-year-old heifers, £1 14s to £2 10s : strong calves, 18s to 27« ; Lincoln ewes, 10i to 12s each. PALMERSTON NORTH. Messrs. Abraham and Williams report on April 9 :—We have only the Palmerston sale of yesterday to report upon. Sheep were in moderate numbers. Store ewes maintained their price, but breeding ewes, wethers and lambs were easier, and this gave ii somewhat dull tono to the market. A few pens went back unsold. The cattle market was brisk anil well supplied with useful sorts, the polled Angus cattle of Mr. Dalrymple's beiii).- much admired. The bidding was brisk throughout, being particularly so for 2-year heifers and steers, though we are inclined to think the demand to-day for these classes was more of temporary than of a permanent character. With the exception of a few weancrs, all the cattle were disposed of. WAVERLEY. Messrs. F. R. Jackson and Co. report- :— At Waverley on Friday we had a full yard of both cattle and sheep. The former sold at better values, aud sheep were cleared at ruling rates. At St. Hill-street a good entry came forward. Cattle sold at current prices, but sheep were at somewhat reduced values. We sold out nearly all that offered. Pigs were in good supply aud made good prices. Jackson and Co. report ;—The bullocks for sale on Tuesday were generally light in weight, but of fair quality. We had some pens of medium. For cows also the bidding was dull, and prices remain at last week's quotations. We had only a limited amount of sheep pens, and no pigs came forward. Cattle : Bullocks, £5 2s 6d to £5 15s up to £6 12s 6d; cows, £3 10s to £4, equal to 14s tor ox and 12s for cows per 1001b. Sheep : Wethers, 9s sd; ewes, 6s lOd to 7s Id; lambs, 7s to 7s Id ; small lambs, 5s (id; stores, 4d Id to 4s 6d; old ewes, 3s 2d. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report on April 6 :-The bullocks for the sale to-day were of good quality and fair weight. The market was rather dull for beef. Sheep improved slightly in value. Pigs were well competed for. Cattle : Best bullocks, £6 5s to £617s 6d ; others, £5 16s to £6, equal to 14s the 1001b. Sheep : Wethers, 8s 6d to 9s Id; ewes, 6s 6d to 79 6d ; store ewes, 3s 9d to ss; fat lambs, 6s fid to 7s; stores, 4s 9d. Pigs ; Baconers, £117s 6d to £2155; porkers, 18s to £1 Is; smaller sorts, 13s 6d to 15s. HELENSVILLE. Mr, Charles Newman's monthly cattle sale, Helensville; 163 head cattle, 250 sheep and pigs were yarded. Bidding was fairly spirited, and nearly all lots' sold. Prices : Calves, 15s to £1 4s; yearling steers, £1 15» ; 2s and 3-year olds, £2 10s to £3 10s; 4-year olds, £5. Sheep : Wethers, 8s 9d to 10s 9d ; ewes, 5s 9d to 7s; lambs, 4s 9d to 5s 6d.
