THE UPOLU. The Union Company's steamer Upolu, Captain F. VV. Macbeth, arrived from the Eastern Pacific at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, bringing a full cargo oi pearl shell, copra, fruit, etc. Mr. E. C. Adams, the purser, reports: The Upolu left Papeete at 6 a.m. on March 31, and called at Papara, Papeari, and Mataiea for fruit, etc., and finally left Papeete .at noon on the 2nd instant. fUrolonga was reached at daylight on tho sth, and after completing loading curao the voyage waa resumed to Auckland at 9.15 a.m. on the 6th. Uuvier Island was passed at 10 p.m. on the 12th, the steamer berthing at the Qiieenetreet wharf as above. Pine weather was experienced throughout the voyage. THE MAMARI.-LARGE QUANTITIES OF lUK SIGHTED. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer Mainari, Captain D. Lovack, arrived from London shortly beforo eleven a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, and having a large quantity of explosives on board, anchored at the powder ground. Dr. Lewis, the health officer, the Customs authorities, and the represeutatives of the press went down in the steam launch Despatch, and boarded the vessel, and Dr. Lewis, finding that no sickness had occurred on board miring the passage, granted the usual pratique. Similarly to all the vessels arriving at the colonics from London the Mamari had an experience with tho ice. On March 15, when in latitude 44.19 South, longitude 49'3 East, nineteen bergs were sighted, varying in height from 230 feet to SOO ieet. The bergs were ranged oil each side of the steamer, forming a channel which extended for about SO miles, the distance being about ten miles across. The Mamari brings 3593 tons of general cargo for Auckland, including a quantity of machinery for the goldfields, and about 900 tons for other ports. The steamer comes into port in very neat order, reflecting great credit upon the officers, both on deck and in the engine department. THE CHARLES G. RICE. The American barque, Charles G. Rice, Captain J. A. Rose, arrived from New York on Wednes., April 7, with a cargo ot kernseue and general merchandise. This is the third visit of the barque to this port, though Captain Rose is on his first trip. The voyage, which has occupied 119 days, has been somewhat lengthened, owing to contrary winds being met with along the coast, the vessel taking ten days to come down from the North Cape to port. In latitude 43 dcg. South, a large quantity of ice was sighted, some of the bergs being very large, and some just awash. The barque was three days in getting clear of the ice. THE SCOwTda ASHORE. Our Omaha correspondent telegraphed on Monday :—" The scow Ida went ashore on Pakatau Point on Friday. She missed stays and drifted ashore. The crew got ashore safely. The American barque Mary Hasbrouck, which sailed trom New York on January 2, for Wellington and Auckland, was spoken on January 21, in lat. 32-24 N., long. 3436, with jibboom gone. An average speed of 14$ knots was maintained by the Gothic on her trip from Port Chalmers to Napier, and she covered the distance—42l nautical miles—in the excellent time of 33 hours 43 minutes. This constitutes a record between these two porta, and it will probably remain unbroken for some time. The well-known Tyser liner Hawke's Bay arrived from London and Australia on Monday, March 29. As usual, the steamer conies into port in excellent order, both on deck and in the engine department, reflecting great credit upon Captain Felgate and the deck officers and the chief eugineer (Mr. Gimblett) and his subordinates. The Hawke's Bay brings altou 12309 tons of general merchandise for this port. On Monday, March 29, the English barque Lintrathen, Captain Pride, arrived from Fremantle (W.A.), in ballast, after a lather eventful voyage of 47 days, The barque is a fine looking vessel, built of iron by Mr. Thompson, of Duudee, in 1876, and is owned by Mr. J. Gibson, of the same port; is of 699 tons register, and carries a good amount of cargo. She conies to this port under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company to load general cargo for London.
