A yodng man named 3. Agnow, a miner, Thamos, was on March 27 shot in the bowels just above the left groin, bub whether it was done accidentally or on purpose it is not yet clear. The particulars of the affair are as follow :— Agnew, who was on his way home from a shooting-gallery in Cochranestreet, was joined by a young man named George Osborno, who remarked about the high price charged for shots at the gallery. Osborne then produced some bullets that he had In his pocket, and said that they only cost about a penny each. On this Agnew asked what he was doing with bullets in his possession. Oaborne replied that he also had a revolver, and at Agnow's request he produced the same. Agnew then took the rovoWor in his hand, and after examining it gave it back to Osborne. The latter then pointed the revolver towards Agnew and fired, and the bullet entered Agnew as above described. They had at this time reached opposite Thornton's fruit shop in Pollenstreet. The report at once drew the attention of several persona near by, and upon their coming on the scene Agnew pointed to Osborne, ns being the man who ehot him. Constable Miller, who happened to be only a few yards away, at once arrested Osborne, and Agnew was taken, after examination by Dr. Payne, to the hospital, where his injury was attended to by Dr. Williams. Agnew'e version of the affair is that he Was not aware the revolver was loaded, and that the shooting was accidental. He was brought up at the Police Court on March 29, before Mr. James McGowan, M.H.R., J.P., and charged with having on the 27th March, attempted to murder one Samuel Agnew. He was remanded. The charge against Stephen Bosher, of murdering Mr. and Mrs. Jonei at Fetone, was concluded on Tuesday, March 23rd. , The jury retired at six o'clock and returned after 11 p.m. with a verdict of " Guilty," and sentence of death was pronounced in the usual way. The hearing of the charge preferred against John Fitzgerald and George Wilson, of murdering James Mclntosh at Napier, on March 20th, commenced in the' Magistrate's Court on April 8.
