TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—ln your Friday's issue it is stated that Rates are about to be placed at the entrance to the lane leading to the win; entrance of the Mew Zealand Insurance Buildings. Now, no person has any right to erect gates in a public thoroughfare, as they dare not close such upon pain of having the gates broken open by any citizen desiring access to the lane. I am sure the public will be pleased that the City Council have declined the request of Messrs. Porter.and j Hampson that 'a very necessary public convenience should be removed,-I am. etc., | Citizen.
