TO THE KDITOR. Sir,—l observe, with pleasure, that the City Council are king steps to lay off the Alten Road reserve. 1 think, in any design adopted, provision ought to be made for preserving the old fortification almo3t opposite St. Andrew's Church, which, I understand, was thrown up many years ago, to prevent the invasion of Auckland by the Ngatipaoa (an excellent illustration in connection with which incident, appeared as one of your Christmas supplements). This earthwork might he made Hie site of a flag-stuff.l am, etc., , Old N.Z.
