The monthly meeting of the Aratapu School Committee was held on Monday evening. There were present: • Messrs. S. Wilson (chairman), T. Nield, J. Morgan, Donaldson, J. Smith, M. Martin, and 6. Mills. The action of the chairman, secretary, and Mr. Nield in letting the contract for carting sand on to school ground, to Mr. McCowau at 2s 6d per yard, was confirmed. It was resolved that ■ Mr. Houlihan be employed to cut firewood for school between the spreading of the loads of sand, and that on completion he be paid on certificate of Mr. Morgan. The question of attendance certificates, was considered. Some of those whose names were sent in by the teacher as entitled to these, had, it was found, keen repeatedly late in their attendances. It was consideied that these could not be deemed entitled to certificates for full time attendance. The chairman was authorised to sign the certificates of those who had been regular and punctual. The question of the selection of a new head teacher for the school was then gone into. The Board of Education forwarded the names of six candidates to select from, namely, Bishoprick. Semadeui, Philips, McNaughton. H. B. Wilson, and G. Wilson. A good deal of talk was indulged in, and a suggestion made that more names should be asked for, but as this meant deferring the appointment till after the election of a new committee, it was not approved. Mr. Mills proposed, "That Mr. H. B. Wilson, of Tairua, be selected for the position," and this was carried, Messrs. Mills, Donaldson, Smith, and Martin voting tor the : motion.—[Own Correspondent.]
