A long sitting of the Police Court was held at Pahi on -the .Ist April, the presiding justices being Mews. W. H. Snelling, 6, Cliff, and 0. Skelton. Mr. James Hemphill, clerk to the Court, was also present. Five men, named Charles Turner, John Moriarty, William McManus, Thomas McManus, and Joseph Lee, Kumdixgcrs, were charged by Mr. W. H. Jackhian with obtaining goods by falae pretences, to the value of £1619* 9d. Mr, Jackinan, storekeeper, stated that he supplied the goods to the prisoners on the understanding' that they were to go to his leasehold gumfield, and dig for gum with which to pay for the stores advanced. He would not otherwise have given them credit. There was no written agreement to this effect, but he explained it to the prisoners in the presence of each other. 6. A. McIlwraith, storeman, in the employ of Mr. Jackman, deposed'to serving the prisoners with the goods mentioned in the schedule.
