LIGHTS AND JOYS FOR THE JUBILEE OF VICTORIA THE WISE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l am glad to sea that the Mayor and Council are taking up the Diamond Jubilee question in right earnest, and trust that they will adopt your suggestion of a Victoria Children's Hospital for Auckland. At a united meeting of our Melanesian working party and Mother's Union of St. Luke's, Mount Albert, yesterday afternoon, it was resolved to canvass the whole of the parochial district for a minimum subscription of one shilling towards the Children's Hospital idea, and to do what we can towards making the Jubilee Day bright, nappy, and useful. 1 hope, sir, that all houses and buildings, public and private, will prove the genuine loyalty of New Zealand on that day, and that Mr. Upton's suggestion that the Queen should generally be called Victoria the Wise, will be ■ adopted, Personally, I think that a wing should be thought of for the Hospital, especially for women, in honour of the sex, of " Victorii the Wise." There should b'e plenty of music and singing, cheap or free, on that day ol Jubilee, and an unlimited display of bunting on ships, boats, yachts, and on buildings ol all kinds. The volunteers should be iit theii best, and the schools brilliant in show and fun. A large Municipal dinner, presided over by the Mayor, might be made to contribute much to the Hospital idea.—l am, etc., The Vicar of St. Luke's.' P.S.—Religious bodies generally will doubtless have high teas, after the form of a dinner—minus liquors—and make them an occasion for loyalty, good humour, and general brotherhood.
