ENGLAND AND ENGLISH.

TO THE EDITOK. Sir,—Your contributor, "A. Tramp, Esq., , in kia remarks in your issue ot 20th March, goes out of bis way to vomit forth a perfect volcano of abuse, principally against Scotsmen. It comes not well from him to deer; the Irishman who deprives the Englishman of his liberty, after the long struggle of the Irish for liberty, which is even now refused them almost wholly by so-cidled freedom. loving English. But, being a Scot, I venture to suggest that "A. Tramp, Esq." is not quite certain as to what Scotsmen are agitating for, or he would not make such foolishlj wild and unwarrantable assertions. No Scot has any desire to prevent an Englishmau calling himself such as much, and as loudly, as he pleases; and leaving aside the incoherent ravings of "A. Tramp, Esq." auent Magna Charta, and his blatant assertion that the Englishman alone faces thr dangers of making discovery, fighting, and conquering, I will point out very brieily what has caused the overflow of "A. Tramp, Esq.'s" mud geyser. All Scottish people who object to the substitution of the terms "Eugland" aud " English" for " Britain" and "British" are petitioning the Queen with reference to this misuse of national names. Bv so doing Scotsmen are only doing that which is perfectly right and proper, for the abuse complained of is a violation of Scotland's honour and treaty rights, and a Scot is naturally as proud of his unconquered country's name as any Englishman can be ol the name of his much-conquered country. But why such a simple matter as respecting the rights and honour of others should cause such a disturbance of mental equilibrium in "A. Tramp, Esq.," is best known to that gentleman himself.—l am, etc., Jim.
