Wallis) is expected to arrive in Auckland on Wednesday, and will preach at St. Sepulchre's Church on Good Friday morning. Hay, on behalf of the employees, presented Mr. Bennett with a very handiome album, and in doing so complimented him upon the friendly relationship that had existed between himself and the firm, and heartily wished him every success in his new enterprise. Mr. Bennett suitably replied. Lieutenant J. E. Hume, of the Permanent Artillery, was married on Tuesday afternoon at St. Michael's Church, Christchurcb, to Miss Powell, only daughter of the late Dr. Powell, of Canterbury. The Rev. Canon performed the_ ceremony. The bride was attended by Mies Thomas and the Misses Merton, and the bridegroom by bis two brothers, Messrs. Kenneth and Phil Hume. By the kind permission of Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon, the officer commanding the Canterbury district, a detachment of the Permanent Artillery was present, and lined the aisle of the church. The wedding was one which caused greab interest in the Southern city, Miss Powell being a very popular young lady in mueical circles, and the bridegroom and hie brothers being well-known in athletic circlet. As the happy pair left the church the" Wedding March" was played by Mr. C. Turner, the well-known Christchurch organist.
