With refereuce to Sir John Willoughby's letter to the War Office, he said it was written with a view to prevent his fellow-officer 3 losing their commissions. The statement that the Imperial authorities authorised the expedition exceeded anything witness had said'or implied. Sir John Willoughby, being reexamined, stated that his legal adviser worded the letter sent to the War Office. His only object was to save the other officers. He concurred with Dr. Jameson's evidence.
